Sea Water turns Sweet

Yesterday there was a news on TV that the sea water on the cost of "Mahim, Mumbai" had turned sweet. After hearing the rumour thousands of people in Maharashtra and Gujrat went to the shore and started drinking the sea water.

People believed that the "sweet" sea water is a God's miracle and will be helpfull in curing severe illness. Many people started saying that it is even dooing so, even though the Mumbai Municipalti Corporation and the Government officials kept saying that drinking that water is not safe and cause some problems. The officials collected the water samples and sent them to labs for testing, but the people ignored the warnings and kept drinking the water.

The water had changed taste due to the heavy rains in the past few days throughout the country, as the water input through the various rivers had increased by a huge amount. This is the most probable reason for this and this is what the authorities tried to tell the people.

But in a severely superetitious country like ours it is veeeee...ery difficult to put forward any rational explanations of such incedents as people blindly believe mythology and completely ignore science against it. I found some such people in my surroundings who also believed that it's a miracle. When I put the excessive raain theory in there face they were not ready to listen to any arguments. I don't know when will we Indians become a more rational and practical people and start looking at this world with a scientific view.
