Leaving on a +ve note

As readers you may think that I only comment negatively on events so i am going to share some positive things that happened with me today.
  • I bought some games I wanted to play for a long time now.
  • I rectified some problem with my OS and Browser which had been troubling me for quite some time.

Now I would end this session and go to sleep!

When will they Learn

On Aug 20 I wrote about superstitions in India, about sea water turning sweet. That was just the beginning, in the last two days there have been 2 more rumours alike. One about God statues drinking milk just like it happened 11 years ago and another about Earth seeming to have 2 moons. Second one saying that Mars would come so close to Earth on 27th that it would seem that our Earth has two moons.

I can't understand how people believe such things, even educated people behave in such ridiculous ways as if they are retards. Me & my sister both got E-Mails about the 2 moon rumour as if its a rational unprecidented event
( a miracle... they say).

Hair tempered with the Game and Inzamam

Inzamam we are with You.

In the fourth test at Oval what happened was terrible, for the teams, the fans, and the game itself.
"What were they thinking!" Both the sides (Pak Team & the Umpieres) were wrong and did what they should not have done.

First the Umpieres should have told the Captain about what they were doing before changing the ball or penalizing the guest team. After that the Pak team had all rights to protest against the officials decision but that should have been done in in a proper way (like black bands on arms), but the Guests should have continued the play
and put the matter up to the ICC through the PCB later. And even after that when the Pak team came to the ground later the Umpiers acted very disturbingly and called the match in favor of the home side.

Inzamam can't temper with the ball or dishonor the game in any way possible although he is a hot tempered guy (that's why the decision of not going to the field), but he is surely not a cheater. I can't say anything about other Pak players but Inzy dosen't do such things.

I would put the blame on Mr. Darel Hair for causing this controvercy and bringing shame to the game. He has been biased against the teams of the subcontinent in the past before also. He has alleged Muthaiya Muralitharan of Shri Lanka and Harbhajan Singh of India for bad action in the past. He has also taken some controvercial(read.. Intentionaly harmfull and insulting) decisions against the players of the subcontinent.

My point is :

  • Why is he the only Umpire who points out any defects or irregularities in the game of the players of the subcontinent.
  • Why he does not finds any problem with players from anywhere else in the world.
  • Why is he made Umpire in a test match in which Pakistan is playing even when the PCB has officially requested ICC for not dooing so.

If Hair can't prove that the ball was tempered he should be given leave from the profession of umpiring. I personally think that this man should not be in the "Elite Panel of Umpieres of the ICC", rather he should not be umpiering in international cricket as he is racialy biased and should consult a psychytrist for his problems.

I hope the controvercy will be resolved in near future and the test match should be dismissed.Lets hope that Inzzy will be cleared of the charges and the sport will win in the end.

Sea Water turns Sweet

Yesterday there was a news on TV that the sea water on the cost of "Mahim, Mumbai" had turned sweet. After hearing the rumour thousands of people in Maharashtra and Gujrat went to the shore and started drinking the sea water.

People believed that the "sweet" sea water is a God's miracle and will be helpfull in curing severe illness. Many people started saying that it is even dooing so, even though the Mumbai Municipalti Corporation and the Government officials kept saying that drinking that water is not safe and cause some problems. The officials collected the water samples and sent them to labs for testing, but the people ignored the warnings and kept drinking the water.

The water had changed taste due to the heavy rains in the past few days throughout the country, as the water input through the various rivers had increased by a huge amount. This is the most probable reason for this and this is what the authorities tried to tell the people.

But in a severely superetitious country like ours it is veeeee...ery difficult to put forward any rational explanations of such incedents as people blindly believe mythology and completely ignore science against it. I found some such people in my surroundings who also believed that it's a miracle. When I put the excessive raain theory in there face they were not ready to listen to any arguments. I don't know when will we Indians become a more rational and practical people and start looking at this world with a scientific view.

The 12 Planet Solar System

At a meeting of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in Prague, a proposal put forth to define the term "planet" would boost the tally from nine to 12 by adding asteroid Ceres, Pluto's moon Charon, and a distant icy object "2003 UB313, nicknamed Xena, to the list.

This is the first time a definition of a "planet" is being formulated.
Under the proposed definition, an object is a planet if it is at least 500 miles in diameter, orbits the sun, and has a mass at least about one-12,000th that of Earth.

Meanwhile, one of the adherents to the new proposal provided a copy to SPACE.com. Here is an abstract:
New proposal for Resolution 5:
Definition of a Planet
A planet is a celestial body that (a) is by far the largest object in its local population, (b) has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape , (c) does not produce energy by any nuclear fusion mechanism .

These proposed definitions are ambiguous and I think this may lead to our moon being classified as a planet. Surely Pluto and Charon will become a dual planet system, which would be unique.

I personally would like to have a set definition of the term "planet", whether
9 or 12. Any confusion in such matters is unfortunate and unacceptable. I hope that the International Astronomical Union (IAU) reach some conclusion at its general assembly in Prague, Czech Republic, during the third week of Aug 2006 and put this matter to rest until any new object is discovered.

Sports Awards 2006

This is in regards to the Sports Awards 2006 given by the government of India to various sports personalities of the nation. These awards have always created controversies after their announcements because of the selection criteria and procedures.

According to IBNLive.com this years Rajeev Gandhi Khel Ratna Award will be given to 21-year-old Bangalore cueist Pankaj Advani. Advani is the reigning world billiards champion and the winner of the Amatuer World Snooker title in 2003. He also won the Arjuna Award in 2003. He was nominated along with Rahul Dravid & Mahesh Bhupati, both of whom have been playing for the country for a much longer time. I think Mahesh Bhupati is being ngleglected as he deserves the award the most among the nominies. This is also important as he might not be nominated in the future, as he is getting old and his game isent getting any better. And he is also managing his sports company GloboSport. But we should never forget that he is the best doubles Tennis player India has ever produced. Rahul Dravid & Pankaj Advani are here to stay for some more years but this might be Hesh's last shot at the country's highest sporting honour - "The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna".

The comitee has managed to keep its tredition of creating controversies with the awards for one more year, as there are no male cricketers in the nominees of the "Arjuna Award" for this year. No cricket fan would like this in our cricket crazy country.

Well, congratulations to Mr. Advani and good luck to all the hopefull players who didn't get the chance this year. Let's hope that Hesh keeps up the good work and gets the award in the future.

My First Post

Hello Everybody

I am new to the world of blogging. I don,t have any special matter to express myself writenow so I am thinking about leaving this page empty for now... On second thought lets have alook at the situation in ShriLanka, after the bomb blasts The South African team has left the country instead of playing The tri-series with India & the host.

The BCCI & The Indian Team have taken the right decision by staying put and playing, because there is no point in being afraid of the terrorists and backing away. As that would only have boosted the moral of the terrorists and that would have been wrong. I wish best o luck to both the teams and to the victims of the blasts, hoping that they would recover soon and the terrorists would be caught and justice would be served.

Let's hope that the series would be a sucsses, sports spirit would prevail and peace restored in the Iland.
